Emergency meeting: The Selectboard will hold an emergency meeting tonight 7/23/13 at 6:30pm at the town office meeting room to approve remedies for two problems that popped up yesterday: the Willow Brook Road culvert partial washout and a replacement for the grader cutting edge that broke. They need to be addressed now and cannot wait for a regular or later special meeting. As always, members of the public are welcome. We expect it to be brief!
Roadside mowing: Yes, roadside mowing began today and will continue for the next few days. We hire an outside contractor with a mower so he will not be as familiar with individual properties as our own road crew.
Be aware that on most roads, the town right of way runs about 25 feet to either side from the center line of the road. If you care about your plantings, refrain from landscaping (or placing fences or structures) within the right of way.
The town's ability to maintain our roads, road shoulders and ditches is ultimately a matter of public safety. Thanks for your understanding.

Selectboard Position Open
Tomorrow at town meeting we will be thanking Richard Browne for 9 years of service (3 terms!) on the Selectboard. He will continue to serve the Town on the Planning Commission.
His departure leaves an open position for a new Selectboard member. Are you looking for a way to be more involved? to learn how the town works? to have a direct say in Peacham's town management decisions? Run for office! Have someone nominate you on the floor of town meeting (Article 5: To elect a Selectboard member for a term of three years).
If you have questions about the time commitment or anything else about it, contact me, Annette Lorraine, or Andy Cochran.

Be Ready for Another Storm (Sandy this time)
A reminder that Hurricane Sandy is on its way to Peacham with high winds beginning this afternoon and running though late Tuesday morning. And rain throughout the week. State emergency services are asking folks to stay off the roads Monday evening through Tuesday if possible because there are bound to be downed trees and power lines. Be prepared for long power outages (with food that needs no refrigeration, containers of water if you have a well, flashlights or lanterns, battery or windup radio); with such a widespread storm over the northeastern US, power crews will be spread thin and may not get to remote areas for some time. If predictions are overblown, it is better to be overprepared than the other way around.
With downed trees or road washouts, leave a message at the town garage: 592-3101; our foreman, Mark Chase, will check them but may not have time to return calls to everyone. For power outages, call your power company (Green Mountain Power: 1-888-835-4672). For other emergencies, call 9-1-1. Please be patient with our road crew - they may be working long hard hours over the next few days.
